At Small House Great Love, we are all about unloading stuff that doesn’t serve us any longer and filling up our homes and lives with the things we value. It’s super rewarding to know that the things we keep around are worthwhile to us, whether it is stuff in our living room or basement. (This concept also applies to our calendars, relationships, traditions, and obligations, but we’ll talk about those another day). Our lives are way too short to be filled up with junk that keeps us from what could really add meaning to our journey.

We’ve covered some ground on the benefits of downsizing, how to know what to keep, how to tackle a purging project, and how to organize just about anything. I hope these posts have been helpful in your own adventure in decluttering.

Of course, purging, simplifying, and organizing are not a one time only kind of thing, dang it. But after giving them our best efforts, spaces that have been given the once over are much easier to maintain and future purging, simplifying, and organizing are a piece of cake. Meaning it won’t be so overwhelming again.

But besides that, let’s talk about what comes next.

As you walk around admiring your topnotch efforts and enjoying your purged, simplified, and organized home, what would you like to see for your future? Are you looking for more time to spend with people or on hobbies? Maybe you want that time to build something new, like furniture or friendships. Could you be looking for calmness in your world (or straight up more sleep)? I know someone who would love to have her family’s mornings go smoother. Are there things you would like to do but you keep not finding the time to get to them? Or maybe there is a completely different dream you’ve been dreaming. I bet there are lots of things you would rather do than work for, move around, dust, repair, and maintain stuff that is useless to you.

When you purge, simplify, and organize your home, you will absolutely have more time. You will also have more space, mental energy, and serenity. These are such amazing benefits, right? Are you looking for any of these in your world?

The question that could be most helpful to you is this:

What do I want to fill up my life with?

One way to be successful with reaching a goal is to start with the end in mind. If you can answer this question, you just might have found what you are looking for to get started.

The thing is, there is more to downsizing, purging, simplifying, and organizing your home than just doing them and having them done. Sure it’s great to look around and be thrilled with your efforts, but when you lose the baggage, you are then more free to add things to your world that bring adventure and accomplishment and joy.

Look at this list of benefits you could have more of:

  • Time
  • Space
  • Mental energy
  • Serenity
  • Adventure
  • Accomplishment
  • Joy
  • (Fill in the blank here)

Are you ready to fill up your corner of the world with some of these? I would love to hear what you would do with all of these rewards – Let me know in the comments!

More time to read! I’ve been purging a lot of stuff and am almost done and I look forward to reading during that time now while my kids “do” school.
